Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Analytical Chemist with proven expertise in petroleum & petroleum product and water
analysis to join our laboratory team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting high-precision testing,
ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting quality assurance across upstream, midstream, and
downstream oil & gas operations.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct Petroleum assay, chemical and physical analysis of crude oil, refined products, lubricants,
petrochemicals, formation water and specialty fuel: including, SARA analysis, Dean & Stark analysis, Salt in
crude, Color, Coper corrosion, API measurement, specific gravity measurement, Reid vapor pressure
measurement, aniline point, metals, organics, anions, etc.
Crude oil Fingerprinting using GC-FID & GC-MS with data interpretation.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments (GC, GC-MS, HPLC, ICP, AAS, XRF, FTIR, distillation
analyzers, flash point testers, SPECTROPHOTOMETER, etc.).
Perform testing in line with ASTM, API, ISO, IP, and other international standards.
Ensure laboratory compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements.
Prepare accurate test reports and certificates of analysis for clients, regulatory bodies and other internal and
external stakeholders.
Troubleshoot analytical methods and recommend improvements for efficiency and reliability.
Collaborate with QA/QC to ensure petroleum products meet regulatory and client specifications.
Provide technical support during audits, inspections, and client visits.
Train and mentor laboratory technicians in petroleum testing procedures.
Ensure adherence to HSE standards during all laboratory operations.
Analyzing each data obtained ensuring its accuracy and reliability, and interpret results to support crude
marketing and refinery decisions.
Maintaining and calibrating Crude assay equipment to ensure accurate data collection.
Implementing and maintaining quality control procedures to ensure the reliability and accuracy of generated
data.
Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the laboratory.
Investigating and resolving technical issues that may arise in the laboratory.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, or related field (Master’s an
advantage).
5–8 years’ hands-on experience in petroleum and petroleum product analysis in an accredited laboratory.
Strong knowledge of petroleum product testing methods (ASTM, IP, API, ISO, etc.).
Proficiency in the use and maintenance of modern petroleum analytical instruments.
Proven ability to interpret analytical data and prepare technical reports.
Strong understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 quality management systems.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Additional Skills & Certifications
Professional membership or certification (e.g., ICCON, RSC, ASTM, or equivalent).
Experience working in oil & gas servicing, refining, or petrochemical industries.
Familiarity with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems).
Knowledge of emerging trends in petroleum testing and quality assurance.
Strong analytical skills, data interpretation skills, leadership skills, communication skills, and problem-solving
skills.
Advanced skill in the use of Microsoft Office Package, Distillation software, (Hysys is an additional advantage)
and other high-level computer technology.
Ability to interpret data, identify issues, and propose solutions. .
Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, specialists, and clients.
Ability to be proactive with proven attention to details.
